Coming at you loud and proud from Paris, Worst Doubt embraces the old school thrash sound, but with a slammy twist. It’s hardcore too, but not your average kind. You’ll see what I mean when you listen to their most recent EP, “Immortal Pain”.
The opening song, “Ruination”, is heavy as fxck. That opening breakdown has some oomph to it and the hook is no different. Hugo’s vocals are the perfect fit for Worst Doubt. The pure anger you can feel in their voice resonates.
“Consume” is next on the menu. A far thrashier song than the first, but that doesn’t mean it’s not still heavy. I can see some pretty gnarly circle pits to this song and 2-step breaks on the floor. The blend between hardcore and thrash really shines with this song. I love the ambient leads that give this one a bit of an eerie tone.
“Machine Way”, the third track, keeps the energy going. This one has the biggest 2-step feel to it. You can really feel the old school thrash inspiration in this one. Up until that end breakdown, which is a punch fest. It’s a doomy one. Watch your face in that pit.
The title track is the second to last on the EP. It’s the grooviest one, in my opinion. I really appreciate how I can understand what Hugo is saying. Not much to say about it that I haven’t said about the others. It’s more thrashy, hardcore goodness.
We finish things off with “City of Blight”, which is a featured track with other hardcore vocalists from Paris. In all honesty, I’m personally not a fan of these kinds of tracks, but that’s just because I’m not the biggest hardcore fan (I also don’t know any of the vocalists featured so the intrigue isn’t really there for me). If you ARE, however, a fan of hardcore music and enjoy compilation songs, or if you are savvy with the Paris hardcore scene, then this song will likely be more your cup of tea.
“Immortal Pain” is out as of March 1st, 2024 on your favorite platforms! Make sure you show some love so we get more tunes soon!
